Full report

On March 21, 2023, seventh grader Liam Morrison wore a T-shirt reading 'There Are Only Two Genders' to Nichols Middle School. Administrators required him to remove it under a dress code barring messages targeting protected classes; when he wore a follow-up shirt reading 'There Are [censored] Genders' in May, he was again removed from class. With Alliance Defending Freedom, Morrison sued in L.M. v. Town of Middleborough. The U.S. District Court denied a preliminary injunction; the First Circuit affirmed in 2024, and the Supreme Court denied certiorari in May 2025, with Justices Alito and Thomas dissenting.
