Blaze Media reporter Steve Baker was arrested by the FBI in Dallas in March 2024 and charged with four misdemeanors stemming from his reporting inside the U.S. Capitol on January 6, 2021. The Justice Department dismissed the charges in January 2025.
On March 1, 2024, FBI agents arrested independent journalist Steve Baker, who reported for Blaze Media, at a federal courthouse in Dallas on four misdemeanor counts tied to his reporting from inside the U.S. Capitol on January 6, 2021. Baker had spent more than two years openly publishing footage and analysis of that day and said he had been in contact with the FBI about a possible voluntary interview. Press freedom organizations including the Reporters Committee for Freedom of the Press and the Society of Professional Journalists raised concerns about prosecuting a working journalist for newsgathering activity. On January 21, 2025, the Justice Department moved to dismiss the charges after the change in administration; the court granted dismissal.
