Texas Medical Board files formal complaint against Dr. Mary Talley Bowden
In 2023 the Texas Medical Board filed a formal complaint against Dr. Mary Talley Bowden alleging non-therapeutic prescribing of ivermectin for COVID-19 and dissemination of information contrary to medical consensus. The case was referred to the State Office of Administrative Hearings (SOAH).
Following multiple public complaints, the Texas Medical Board opened an investigation into Bowden's prescribing of ivermectin for COVID-19 and her public statements criticizing vaccine mandates and hospital treatment protocols. The Board filed a formal complaint referred to the State Office of Administrative Hearings, alleging violations of the Medical Practice Act including non-therapeutic prescribing and unprofessional conduct. Bowden publicly published the complaint and TMB correspondence on her Americans for Health Freedom site and responded that the charges targeted protected speech and off-label prescribing, which Texas law expressly permits under 2023 amendments to the Medical Practice Act (SB 175 / HB 44 protections for off-label prescribing).
